KROGER CONTINUES FIGHT TO HELP END HUNGER IN AMERICA
Retailer’s “Bringing Hope to the Table” Campaign To Provide Food and Cash Donations To 80 Food Banks Nationwide

CINCINNATI, Ohio, June 9, 2008 – As part of its ongoing leadership in the fight against hunger, The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) invites customers to join in “Bringing Hope to the Table,®” a two-week campaign running this month in every store to support America’s Second Harvest, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

With the help of numerous vendor partners “Bringing Hope to the Table,” is expected to generate $4 million dollars in cash and food donations to assist 80 local food banks in communities where Kroger’s customers and associates live and work.

Every time customers purchase participating items in any of Kroger’s family of stores through June 21, they will be showing their support for food banks in their own community. Participating items will be marked with double-wide yellow “Bringing Hope to the Table” shelf tags.

The hunger relief campaign includes products made by Kellogg’s®, Keebler®, P&G, Kraft®, Nabisco®, Pepsi®, Nestle USA®, and brands represented by Acosta Sales and Marketing. A number of Kroger’s own corporate brands, including Private Selection items, are also included in the fund-raising effort.

“As one of the largest retail grocers in the country, Kroger is committed to the fight to end hunger in America,” said Lynn Marmer, Kroger’s group vice president of corporate affairs and a member of the board of America’s Second Harvest. “Food banks and hunger agencies across the country are facing unprecedented demand. ‘Bringing Hope to the Table’ allows our customers, associates and vendors to drive funds to food banks in the communities we all share.”

Kroger has helped lead the fight against hunger in the United States for more than 25 years. In the past five years, the Company has donated nearly 140 million pounds of food and groceries, valued at more than $210 million, to food banks across the country. In addition to food, Kroger’s contributions include products such as toiletries and cleaning supplies – items families and individuals relying on food banks request most often after food. In 2007, Kroger was selected "Retailer of the Year" by America’s Second Harvest, the fifth time in seven years the Company has received the award.

“’Bringing Hope to the Table’ provides hunger relief to those who need it most – families in need in our own neighborhoods and communities,” said Vicki B. Escarra, president and chief executive officer of America’s Second Harvest. “In today’s challenging economy, the need is greater than ever. We deeply appreciate Kroger’s long-standing commitment to food banks across the country and the generous support of Kroger’s customers, employees and suppliers to help feed the nation’s hungry.”
